Jeff Morgain is a multi talented athlete. He spends most of his days managing, instructing and motivating people to stay fit. He is a nationally ranked power lifter, holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jujitsu and has several professional fights under his belt. When I first envisioned this project, I wanted to capture the essence of one of the most technical riders of the time. I wanted to connect the power of Pacific Ocean and surf the subject expresses from.
I used light and color to create a unique blend that would transport viewers to the surf. I also wanted to convey the seriousness of the subjects as they tackled some of the most epic waves out there. I did this by capturing and selecting moments that ran congruently with this idea. Together, these elements create a stunning visual experience.
When I photograph subjects, I want to tell their stories in a way that feels cinematic. I look for moments that capture their unique personalities and bring them to life on the screen. By doing this, I’m able to create images that feel like they’re straight out of a movie. It’s an incredible feeling to be able to bring these stories to life through my photography.
